ACAMIS VEX Robotics Championships
From April 20 to 21, CIS hosted the ACAMIS VEX Robotics Championships! This competition brought together 58 teams from 14 international schools across Guangzhou, Beijing, Foshan, Macau, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Hong Kong, and other locations, with over 200 students and coaches participating.
At the event, a variety of robots, under the precise control of the participants, moved orderly forward, backward, and swayed left and right, performing a series of impressive maneuvers. This not only demonstrated the students' exceptional talents in the STEM fields but also showcased their outstanding problem-solving abilities.
After two days of intense competition, under the guidance of coach Mr. Todd Voykin, the CIS RoboGrizzlies team achieved excellent results. The "Absolute Monarchy" team won the VEX VRC "Tournament Runner-Up," and the "Cowboys" team received the VEX IQ "Judges Award."
The team captain of the "Cowboys" shared his competition experience: "Together with my team and coach, we spent a lot of time practicing, conducted numerous tests to achieve the best efficiency and accuracy of our robot. It was an unforgettable experience that taught me many practical skills."
The Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (ACAMIS), as one of the supporting organizations for this event, is a non-profit organization aimed at providing comprehensive opportunities for education, sports, arts, and cultural exchanges for all ACAMIS member school students. CIS is proud to be an ACAMIS member school, to have their support.
CIS was also very proud to partner with VEX. The VEX Robotics Competition is a global event for students from elementary to university levels, designed to enhance and promote teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills among youths. Annually attracting millions of participants from over 40 countries worldwide, it is known as the "Robotics Olympics." Students who are recognized and awarded in these competitions gain a significant advantage when applying to world-class institutions.
CIS leveraged its professional STEAM education resources and it’s extensive experience in hosting events to make this happen. The event included categories and opportunities for all age groups and grade levels, and provided opportunities for students to compete in VEX GO, VEX IQ and VEX VRC.
A coach from Macau TIS International School stated, "By participating in VEX IQ and VRC events, students not only gain a deep understanding of robotics technology but also build strong collaborative relationships among international schools in the Greater Bay Area."
Parents highly praised the event. "Seeing my child's passion and focus on robotics technology during the competition makes me very proud and honored."
CIS Head of School Dr. Howard Stribbell stated, "The robotics industry is one of the hottest frontier industries today. CIS is delighted and proud to host this competition, committed to sparking young people's interest in robotics technology and developing their teamwork and innovative spirit. This is a crucial part of CIS's effort to make quality STEAM education accessible to youths."
CIS STEAM Lead Todd Voykin shared, “We are excited about the 2024/25 Robotics season at CIS. The new VEX games will be released on May 6th and our teams will start designing and building right away.”
