Canadian Thanksgiving at CIS

Canadian International School of Guangzhou 2023-11-10

CIS celebrated (a belated) Canadian Thanksgiving with a unique blend of traditional festivities, a delicious family feast on the lawn complete with turkey, roast ham and all the trimmings, a surprise from our beautiful choir, and most of all, plenty to be grateful for in our caring community.

Embracing Global Connections

This special day reminded everyone of the joy of harvest and CIS’ Canadian roots, and it was made even more special by the presence of Mr. Behzad Babakhani, Canadian Consul General (CG) in Guangzhou, and Ms. Roxanne Hamel, Vice-Consul from the Consulate General of Canada in Guangzhou. Complete with a heartwarming welcome from CIS’ leadership team and CIS (Parent) Council members, their visit tremendously enriched the celebrations. What did Mr. Babakhani have to say about the CIS community? Click on the video to find out!

Sharing Our Musical Melodies

At CIS, students discuss and explore our cultural roots, heritage and traditions both in curriculum and candid conversation during lessons, building confidence and international-mindedness. During CG Babakhani’s visit, our choir students grabbed the opportunity to engage and interact with him about their knowledge of Canada, how they could contribute positively to both Canada and China, and what it means to be in his role as an ambassador of his country.

A Feast to Remember

The traditional turkey carving, led by our guests and CIS leadership team, immersed our students and staff in a quintessential Canadian ritual. Like every year, it was an immense hit with everyone!

At CIS, we continuously strive to provide an education that extends beyond just the academics. Celebrations like Canadian Thanksgiving offer our students experiences of our shared cultures and traditions, fostering respect and a global perspective. As we reflect on this day of gratitude, we're inspired by how our Canadian roots and global connections continue to enrich the holistic development of students and staff at CIS. Happy Canadian Thanksgiving to our community!
