Curriculum Nights

What is the Alberta Curriculum?

What and how does my child learn in his/her classes?

Where can I check my child’s learning progress and reports?

How can I assist my child at home?

At our Curriculum Nights this past week, we answered all these questions, and plenty more!

The End Goal - Planning Your Learning For Your Future

CIS hosts Curriculum Nights at the beginning of every semester, providing parents with information and insights about the what, why and how we teach the Alberta (Canada) Curriculum, how we integrate our ECE and Elementary curriculum with the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework at CIS, and how we prepare young minds for life beyond school, whether its at university or in their passionate pursuit of future professions.

Our Secondary students are also invited to the sessions, learning to be responsible for their own learning.

As intense and informative as these sessions usually are, our Curriculum Nights are only a glance of the learning outcomes we’re teaching at CIS. For those wondering, the Alberta Curriculum is publicly accessible on the Alberta Education website, ensuring transparency and consistency in teaching and learning across all Alberta Accredited International Schools (AAIS).

This is my first time attending CIS Curriculum Night. It was a very informative session. My son is entering High School and this is really helpful for us to plan early for his future life at university.

Building Stronger School-Home Connections

We value face-to-face conversations between teachers and families. Talking in person is the most effective communication channel to foster a positive home-school connection, enhancing students' learning experiences, and building a robust learning community.

During Curriculum Nights, our teachers had the opportunity to share their passion for education and discuss the exciting learning experiences planned for our students. They also learnt more about our families, allowing for deeper understanding of each student's unique traits and enabling differentiation and individualized development. This truly embodies our commitment of being a "caring community."

My child's teacher is very patient and professional. I had a great time getting to know her and chatting with her.

Beyond Curriculum Nights

Communication at CIS is not limited to planned events. We encourage ongoing dialogue and look forward to more opportunities for parents to connect with teachers, ask questions, and discuss their child's learning journey.

We look forward to more insightful and engaging conversations in the future!
