Elementary school at CIS runs from Grade 1 to Grade 6. Students are provided instruction in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Health and Life skills, Physical Education, Music, Art and Mandarin, as well as though after-school activities. The aim is to instill in students a lifelong love of learning and to embody our motto: 'Learn Today, Lead Tomorrow.'
In the upper primary years (Grades 4 – 6), students continue to develop their interests and begin to explore leadership opportunities as role models for the lower grades. They help to run assemblies, lead activities, and are partnered with younger students as reading buddies.

To prepare 2- to 4-year-old children for future success within CIS, our Early Childhood Education (Kindergarten) program addresses children's academic, social and emotional well-being and development in a multi-cultural, English immersion environment. It focuses on play-based learning, where the students' interests guide our daily learning activities. They are given many opportunities to interact with their peers in fun and creative ways in order to be actively engaged in acquiring language, numeracy and social skills. We also use the Kindergarten Program of Studies as a guideline for planning developmentally appropriate activities that will help prepare the students in their future learning journeys.
CIS offers full-day Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten programs. All Kindergarten students have daily Mandarin instruction and participate in physical activities. Each classroom has a qualified teacher, a teacher assistant and a life coach.
Secondary Open Day: May 22 Sign Up
Students in Grades 7 – 9 comprise our Middle School, and with the support of professional teachers, learning support advisers, guidance counselor and administration, they strengthen their academic, social and life skills. In addition to the core subjects of Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, students also receive supervised study time to learn modern skills in their technology or multimedia production class, using tools like robotics and 3D graphic printers. Co-curricular activities continue at this level as students learn to diversify their skills and participate in theatre productions, music, athletics and creative arts.
The high school is comprised of Grades 10 – 12, and offers a rigorous program in preparation for entrance into worldwide universities. Alberta’s students have achieved results among the highest jurisdictions in the world, due to the strong provincial curriculum and pedagogy. Upon completion of the required credits for graduation, students at CIS receive an Alberta High School Diploma, accredited by the Alberta Ministry of Education.
