Transitioning to High School
At CIS, we are committed to making sure Elementary and Junior High students are prepared for their transition to High School. We believe it's never too early to start this process. In fact, the earlier we start, the better is for our community.
And that is exactly why we decided to also invite our Grade 6 parents, along with our Grade 7-9 parents, to our first ‘Breakfast with our Secondary Principal’ this semester. Hosted by our Secondary Vice Principal Mr. Ted Barks, parents from Grades 6 to 9 participated in an authentic conversation about transitioning to the next division, the soft and hard skills that all students need for university, and how to best prepare students for an unknown future.
The Best Way to Ease Anxiety is with Certainty
The Alberta (Canada) High School program is based on credits, and it allows students to choose optional courses that best serve their interest and future plans. It's a flexible and well-rounded curriculum that prepares and supports our students for higher education. To ensure a smooth transition, CIS provides families with clear steps, course information, and one-on-one consultations to lay out individual plans and university guidance for High School and beyond. It is with thorough preparation, sufficient information and a caring community that we beat the anxiety when stepping into a challenging yet important phase of a child’s educational journey.
One of our Grade 6 parents said: "I'm so happy that I attended this informative session. I now understand more about the high school curriculum at CIS and what my family and I need to do to prepare ourselves for university and beyond. I can't wait for my child to graduate from CIS in a few years."
A handy High School Guide for every student to make a smooth transition.
