Class Spotlight: Our Peruvian Research Project
In our ‘Class Spotlight’ series,
come with us as we visit our busy classrooms to discover quality educational experiences!
Social Studies provide opportunities for students to develop the attitudes, skills and knowledge that will enable them to become engaged, active and informed global citizens. In the Alberta curriculum, Social Studies is a required subject from Grade 1 onwards. We dropped in to say hello to our Grade 3 students.
Learning About Research
Our Grade 3 students were hard at work on our research skills this month as students used paper and Internet sources to create a research project all about Peru! The class was thoughtful about what topics they could find and use for their research.
To learn more about different countries. students worked on our research skills, using the Internet as the main source of information. A few of their favourite topics included information about the Peruvian economy, traditional meals, the Peruvian rainforest, tourism, traditional clothing, the Inca people and the three different regions in Peru. Research is hard work, but it paid off with this project!
Why is the study of Peru in the Alberta curriculum so important for our Grade 3 students?
Grade 3 continues to build on the knowledge of different communities and citizenship by examining diverse communities in the world. Grade 3 students were introduced to the concepts of global citizenship and quality of life. Through the learning process, our students demonstrated an understanding and appreciation of how geographic, social, cultural and linguistic factors affect quality of life in a community like Peru.
