Graduation Ceremony
Graduation is the conclusion of one chapter and the beginning of another.
- Catherine Pulsifer
Moments of individual pride, collective congratulations and plenty of tears and hugs marked CIS’ Graduation Ceremony for the Class of 2023, celebrating the extraordinary milestones and successes they have collectively achieved at CIS.
Milestone for CIS Graduating Class
As our 8th and largest graduating cohort to date, the Class of 2023 received 39 offers from Top 50 universities, and a total of 73 offers from Top 100 universities around the world, including UK, Canada, Australia, North America, Hong Kong SAR, China (Mainland) and more, majoring in Medicine, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Business, Communications, Mathematics, Psychology, and more. This outstanding achievement marks the highest acceptance rate from top 100 universities in CIS’ history, making today even more special and memorable as it coincides with the 10th anniversary of CIS.
Our proud Grade 12 families, along with Ms. Winnie Chen (Chairwoman of CIEO), Dr. Howard Stribbell (Head of School at CIS), Mr. Gary Rehman (CIS Principal), Mr. Ted Barks (Secondary Vice Principal of CIS), CIS leadership team, families from ECE all to way to Grade 11, CIS students and teachers from Grades 7 to 12, and friends of the Class of 2023 all gathered together as one family to honor and recognize the efforts and accomplishments of the Class of 2023.
Students cheered our graduands on during the ‘Walk of Fame’, as they walked the hallways for the very last time as Grade 12 students.
During the ceremony, Mr. Philippe Rheault, Consul General of Canada in Guangzhou, sent his best wishes and hopes for the Class of 2023. Graduates were also addressed by Dr. Howard Stribbell, our keynote speaker, as well as Mr. Gary Rehman and Mr. Ted Barks, who offered inspiring words of wisdom and experience.
Recognising our Valedictorian and Salutatorian
As some of the graduands delivered moving speeches, they looked back fondly on their years at CIS (some for 10 years!), filling our hearts with joy, pride, relief and excitement for what is to come for our future leaders as they spread their wings to conquer the world.
This graduating class consisted of some founding students of CIS, including Ryan, our Valedictorian, who has spent the last 10 years at CIS. (Click here to read about Ryan's journey at CIS and his dream offer from NYU.) Ryan's memories of CIS are testament to the growth and success of CIS in the past decade.
"I have had the honor of witnessing our tiny community of just a few students and faculty members grow into a large, vibrant and diverse one. Moreover, it is because of my passionate, jovial, altruistic, respectful, talented, and unique classmates that the Class of 2023 is as fun and lively as it."
From CIS to Top Universities Around the World
And finally, the moment they’ve waited for their entire lives... Grizzly pride was on full display as the Class of 2023 walked proudly across the stage to pick up their diplomas, marking the start of their new lives. As an Alberta Accredited International School, graduating from CIS means receiving the prestigious Alberta High School Diploma, a key for acceptances to top universities around the world.
Congratulations, CIS Class of 2023! The best is yet to come.
As our Salutatorian, Calvin, shared in his wishes to his fellows:
"In the end, remember that your grades do not define you. Your grades do not determine what you are going to achieve or who you are going to become. May we always grow, learn, and achieve greatness in all that we do."
