Nursing Home Volunteer Program
April 14, Tuesday, volunteers started the activity. They went to the nursing home, and finished the activity well. Some volunteers shared their experience and feelings to Student Council.
During the volunteer activity, I met Shujian and we got along very well. Shujian was very kind very friendly to me. One of his ears was deaf, so he couldn’t hear clearly. Also he spoke loudly every time. Shujian said that he had participated in guerrilla warfare and fought in wars. He shared some parts of history to describe for us. All elderly in there were really nice to me. This volunteer activity was particularly meaningful to me.

Martin and I were in the same group, and we had one purpose – to take care of Grandpa Tong. Meanwhile, we did our best to make him happy and enrich his life in the short hour. Every time we met him, we took a walk in the garden and chattered about his daily life, which made him relax to a certain extent physically and mentally. Then, we took Grandpa Tong back to the room for some entertainment. For the first time, we played chess. For the second time, Amos, who is one of my classmates, shown wonderful performances to the elderly. I’m looking forward to meeting Grandpa Tong again.

I had a great time with Grandma Li. Through these two weeks with her, I learned a lot from every social aspect and it helped me to improve. It was really happy to walk and chat with her, and also easy to get along with her. I turned off my cell phone, and chatted nicely to make her happy during the activity. In my opinion, this activity is a great way to accompany the elderly. I hope to be closer to her in the next time.

All volunteers from Student Council are trying hard to approach their own achievement from the activity, and the first step was successful. Hope they feel confident with their work, and pay tribute to their brilliant experience!
