Reading is about more than being able to read words. It is also about being able to understand what you are reading. This Benchmarking system gives teachers valuable information about the student such as their word accuracy and their comprehension of the text. Once the student is done reading the benchmark book, the teacher can determine the Independent, Instructional or Hard reading level for each student.
Sometimes, a teacher may communicate to parents about reading level using a letter. Below is a reference to know what the letters refer to.
