Key Support Services
In addition to the new leadership team–CIS is excited to add further support to our school in the area of ELL and counselling. CIS believes in meeting the diverse needs of all our students. We see great value in this service given our growing student population. With the assistance of these passionate individuals and educators, we are confident our students will further benefit. Mr. Bureay who will be focusing on ELL and Mr. Turner will be focusing on the area of counselling will be great assets for our learning environment.
Mr. Philippe Bureau: ELL Coordinator
After having spent two years teaching in a private school just outside Montreal, Canada, Philippe decided to take on new challenges in China in 2016. With his bachelor’s degree in teaching English as a Second Language, he was able to teach various subjects from Visual Arts to Canadian Politics. This year, he is very excited to go back to his roots and work closely with students and staff to make sure everyone at CIS receives the support they need. In addition to teaching all high-school ESL classes, a great deal of his time will be spent helping students determine what can be done to improve their English skills, along with helping teachers develop personalised ESL techniques for their classrooms. We look forward to Mr. Bureay joining the leadership and support team.
Mr. Matthew Turner: School Counsellor
Mr. Turner grew up in a small town in Nova Scotia, Canada. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Mary’s University as well as his Bachelor of Education degree from Mount St. Vincent University, both located in Halifax. He received his degrees in 2006 and 2008 respectively, with a double major in History and English and a specialization in secondary education. Mr. Turner began his teaching career in Alberta where he spent six years teaching a myriad of subjects ranging from grades seven to twelve. During this time, he completed his Master of Education degree in leadership through the Memorial University of Newfoundland. In 2015, Matthew began studying to complete his Doctor of Education degree through the University of Calgary. This venture was put on hold to pursue an opportunity in international education with CIEO in Guangzhou, China. We look forward to all the knowledge and support he will bring to CIS this year.
