A common question we receive from parents is why and how we divide students into split classes. This is a practice that we follow from Canadian education since all schools in Canada will also make new class lists every year.
To help our CIS families understand this, we asked our principal to offer some insight:
Children benefit from learning through all kinds of relationships and in a variety of environments. For this reason, class placement is considered a school responsibility.
Research indicates that optimum classroom environments are balanced, therefore the goal in our classroom placement of students is to create as much balance as possible in:
-the academic achievement levels among students
-the social/behavioural levels of students
-the learning styles of students
-the ratio of boys to girls
-the ratio of students in each section
Teachers, Learning Support Services and Administration collaborate in analyzing all available date on student academic and behavioural skills, social needs/friendships, and what will balance each classroom.
Final class lists will be posted around the campus on the first day of school and students will be guided to meet their homeroom teacher at designated areas around the school.
If you have any questions regarding the class list, please feel free to arrange a meeting with us. We look forward to another amazing school year with new teachers, friends and an exciting learning experience at CIS!
