Our school is becoming quite the name in the sporting community in Guangzhou.
Many of our students compete on different girls and boys teams against the other international schools in Guangzhou and they are winning. Sports is a big part of a school community, not just for health and fitness, but also for teaching the skills of sportsmanship, being part of a team and enhancing their quality of life.
The physical education program emphasizes active living, with a focus on physical activity that is valued and integrated into daily life.
Active living through physical education:
-Creates a desire to participate.
-Focuses on lifetime activities promoting health-related fitness for life.
-Is enhanced through opportunities to participate in after school activities, inter-school athletics and community-based sport and recreation activities.
-Is centered around student needs; inclusive, individual and varied.(Alberta Education Program of Studies)
Our physical education programs promote personal responsibility for health and fitness for students to develop a desire to participate for life. We promote skill development, positive interaction, self-confidence, goal setting and support for academic achievement.
The students at the Canadian International School receive 120 minutes of physical education classes in a week. This is a requirement from Alberta Education for all students until grade 10.
Many of our other students participate in after school clubs and sport activities. We are very fortunate to have many teachers who are passionate about physical education and the talents they bring to CIS.
