In Canada, and around the world, the second Sunday of May is a very special day. This is a day we set aside to celebrate one of the most important people in our lives: our mother or another female like a grandmother, aunt, or close family friend.
This day is special because it is a chance to thank her for all of the amazing things she does to help us. We can celebrate by visiting her, making cards or gifts for her or making her breakfast or dinner. Even from afar, we can send love by phoning or sending a card in the mail.
This week, some of our students spent time learning about Mother’s Day. They talked about their mom or the special person in their life and what makes her special and why they love her. They then created cards or crafts to celebrate her.
In PreK3C, Ms. Duren had a mommy show and tell with her little friends. They shared a picture of their mom, something to represent their moms favourite colour, her favourite snack or a book. It was great!
Ms. Galbeti’s Grade 6B class has been working on a multimedia production as a gift to our amazing, beautiful and strong moms. They have come together and collected their fondest memories and will unveil the surprise on Mother’s Day (Sunday, May 10). Below is a class description of what mothers mean to them and the world. Let’s celebrate our mothers 365 days a year!
Being a mom is one of the most rewarding gifts that can be bestowed upon women. Mothers are protectors, confidants, and friends. Mothers sacrifice their wants and needs for the sake of their children. Mothers are your first teachers, your first love and your first counsellor. They work hard to make sure their children are fortified with strength, knowledge and wisdom to make decisions in the real world.
Motherhood is not just giving birth to children. Motherhood is caring and nurturing children with the purest form of love. It is about seeing your children for who they really are and then encouraging and teaching them to be the best versions of themselves.
Anyone can give you food to eat or give you a place to crash for a while, but a mother makes a place for you in her life and in her heart that no one else can fill. A mother sees the deepest, truest you and treats you like you already are that person every time. A mother cares about your hurts and fears, but also your dreams and successes. She is a cheerleader, a coach, a trainer and a fan all at the same time.
CIS would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to all of the mothers, grandmothers, aunts and family friends in our school community. We appreciate all that you do for your children, especially at this time.
Happy Mother’s Day!
