What is a Curriculum?
We have parents and friends asking all the time about our curriculum. But before we start to talk about details, what exactly is curriculum? Curriculum is the document that explains to teachers, parents and students what they are learning in each subject.
Why Alberta Canada Curriculum？
The educational system is very different in Canada compared to other countries in the world. The biggest difference is that in Canada, each province works hard to create a strong curriculum for their students. The provinces have similar curricula, but each is unique. The Canadian International School of Guangzhou is an Alberta, Canada certified school. This means that our students are learning the exact same thing that students in Alberta learn.
The reason that we choose to teach the Alberta curriculum is that it is one of the strongest curricula in all of Canada. Our students perform better than other provinces in Canada in many international tests. As an example, in the 2015 PISA tests (a test that is taken by 15-year old students all around the world) Alberta ranked the highest in Canada for the overall test scores – this means that Alberta students did better on the test than any other students in Canada.
With Alberta’s strong curriculum behind them, our passionate teachers create lessons that help the students understand and apply what they are learning to real life. Our teachers don’t teach lessons from a text book – they craft learning activities and inquiry projects that engage and excite the students to learn more!
