Parent Advisory Council
CIS held our first Parent Council meeting of the year on September 13, 2018. As a school community we place a high value on parental involvement and the plan for the 2018/19 school year is to have a Parent Advisory Council where each classroom will have one parent representative for the duration of the school year.
At this time we are asking parents to message their child’s classroom teacher if they wish to be involved in the PAC. It is our intention to have the members of the new PAC confirmed by September 27 with the first meeting to be held shortly after the October holiday.
This year we will also introduce parent committees for important school related business such as uniforms, school bus transportation and school event planning. We look forward to a system where all parents’ voices can be heard and may contribute to the school in a positive and meaningful way. If you have any questions about the PAC or committees, please contact the principal Mrs. Tanya Thiessen at tanya.thiess
Pick-Up Procedures and Student Supervision
In the next few weeks we will be introducing a new student pick-up identity card for parents and students to further enhance the safety at the end of the day. In the meantime we ask for your cooperation during pick-up with the following items:
- Please pick up your child outside the admissions lobby. Having all the students, parents and staff in the lobby makes for a hectic situation and creates a lot of noise for the office staff. If parents need to pick-up uniforms, visit the finance office or have a question for the office staff we want them to be able to do so in a quiet environment. During inclement weather we will have multiple tents outside to protect students and parents from the weather.
- We know how important it is to connect with other parents and families and we also want to ensure every child’s safety. It is important to supervise your children during pick-up time as the teachers are busy helping the students load the bus and wait for their families to arrive. If you are on-site and allowing your child to play on the grounds please remain in close proximity.
All students and families are expected to exit the campus by 4:30pm Monday-Thursday and by 3:30 on Fridays. We are very appreciative of your cooperation and understanding!
Our ASA program kicked-off on September 10th. The students are enjoying a wide variety of options from sports, to Fine Arts, modeling, robotics, gardening, ESL, gaming club, African drumming and dance. We are proud to allow our students so much choice and for them to explore all of their gifts and talents.
At the end of each ASA term we will have a celebration of learning where all parents will be invited to visit the school and to see all their children have accomplished over the course of the term. We look forward to sharing the joy that our after-school programming brings to all of our students.
Update to ASA-FRENCH is now offered during term I and term II for students in Grades 1-3. In addition CIS is currently working towards finding another swim coach for our Kindergarten – G3 students. More news to follow in the coming week. If you child wishes to switch into the French class please have them inform their homeroom teacher or contact Kim Romyn at kim.romyn@ci
