Members of the Student Council at the Canadian International School of Guangzhou recently presented a cheque for 25,100 RMB to CanCham PRD in support of the Medical Mask Fundraiser. Over the past several weeks, the CIS Student Council has been collecting donations from students, staff and families of CIS, showing great initiative and social responsibility.
This donation will fund a shipment of 9,000 medical masks to the Old Strathcona Youth Society in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
The representatives from CIS Student Council made it clear that they wanted to embrace their identities as global citizens and help those in need. “The project was an opportunity to show gratitude and to reach out to places in need of help as Global Citizens,” says Student Council President, Jina Kim.
“I just hope we can help more people. Those disadvantaged teenagers need our help; when all mankind is in trouble, as students of the international school, we should contribute to the international community” added Tommy Yao, CIS Student Council G10 Vice President.
Derek Feng also emphasized his connection to Canada and resolve to support his fellow Canadians as much as possible while living abroad.
“As a Canadian who was raised in China, I would say I am a global citizen and I take this chance very seriously not just because of my identity but also the faith from my heart that I need to do something for my people,” he said. “I really appreciate that we have a chance to work together for people we will never meet and we know that the world is a big family.”
