K11 Art Mall Partnership
CIS is so proud to share with our community the start of a beautiful partnership with K11 Art Mall. Last Thursday night was a culmination of hours of collaboration between the mall and the school. Music director, Eli Keltz, alongside our art director, Su Hun Lee, visited the mall several months ago to envision how our students could present their passion for arts and music in this extraordinary space.
Finally, CIS proudly presented a short music program in the lobby and showcased more than 70 pieces of art on the 7th floor corridor of K11.
On December 20th, the students filled the air with their beautiful melodies and they revealed their creative artwork on the walls of K11 Art Mall.
Many parents and bystanders watched as the CIS dance troupe opened the show with a hip-hop Christmas dance. After, grade 3 played the boomwhackers and the xylophones. Grade 4 played their recorders, and the evening was concluded with the 4th grade singing “We Wish You A Merry Christmas”. The lobby was filled with jubilant Christmas cheer!
CIS Artworks at K11 Art Mall
On the 7th floor, many families and students were able to see the featured CIS artwork that lined the Sky Hallway. Walking along the corridor, the art was further illuminated by the majestic Canton Tower as the backdrop.
One of the eye catching art pieces was a collaborative pieces made by grade 3 through 6 students. The piece was inspired by the concept of “making your mark on the world”. Mr. Lee, the art teacher explained, “It may seem like a very difficult task at first, but the painting process showed us that if we all come together to make one mark at a time – together we can make a difference in the world. Our students truly loved this project and are very proud of their marks”.
“Passion, Joy, Peace” is all about the symbolism of colors. In this artwork the color red symbolizes passion. Yellow represents the feeling of joy, and lastly, blue evokes peace. As these colors mingle with each other the viewer can see passion, joy and peace all interconnected. The inspiration for this work came from the American painter Jackson Pollock. The students learned about action painting and they all thoroughly enjoyed the painting process. At the end of the lesson, the painting process itself was the source of students’ happiness and joy.
CIS is so grateful to start this wonderful partnership with K11 Art Mall. We are excited for our next collaboration! Don’t forget to check out our students’ amazing artwork exhibition at K11 which runs from Dec. 20th to Dec. 27th!
