The Chinese New Year is just days away. Yesterday CIS students and families enjoyed a wonderful celebration.
After more than a month of practice and rehearsal, the show was finally on. The auditorium was filled with parents and families enjoying our very first Chinese New Year celebration in new campus. Families from our international community came early with curiosity and expectation for the performance.
As a traditional Chinese festival, the 15 programs were also a celebration of learning of our Mandarin classes from this last semester. While showcasing their extraordinary talents, students also expressed their brilliant understanding of the language and the traditional culture behind it.
The entire celebration showcased the Chinese culture with a dragon and lion dance, poetry and singing.
Students also brought out their “secret weapon” learned in Chinese classes. The “Prelude to Water Melody” was performed with a Pipa, chanting, calligraphy and Han clothing by Grade 4&5 students, bringing us back to the amazing time of Tang Dynasty.
Music is the best way to begin learning a language音乐是学习语言的最佳启蒙
In learning a second language, curiosity and exploration sometimes just come from a simple catchy song. Dividing into native and non-native language classes, the Mandarin classes at CIS use music to inspire language learning.
The senior students in native Mandarin class also took the responsibility to entertain the crowd with two classic Chinese songs. The auditorium suddenly turned into a live house of a small concert.
International Cultural Fusion
Our students come from more than 40 different countries and regions. Diversity is one of the most valuable treasure of CIS. Teachers and students tried their best to incorporate crossover performances, demonstrating their incredible creativity with international culture in the re-interpretation of Chinese classics.
Happy Chinese New Year
When talking about New Year good wishes, there is nothing more joyful than hearing from our Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten cuties.
In just a few months, the Kindergarten students will officially go to Grade one. Our KA and KB children chose a tender performance to express thankfulness deep in their heart, embracing wind and rain, flowers and land, parents and teachers. The song led to tears from many Dads and Moms.
The final performance is from our very own CIS teachers! Their exciting performance “The Evolution of Dance” showcased different dance trends from the 1950’s to now. The performance made the audience burst into applause and closed the show on a very high note.
Many thanks to our Mandarin Team for their hard work and dedication for an amazing Celebration. It’s the best way for CIS to say happy Chinese New Year to our community. Please stay tuned to CIS WeChat for an upcoming video of the Celebration!
