With the end of the 2019-2020 school year, it’s also a sad time to say goodbye to our dear principal Mrs. Tanya Thiessen. We’re lucky to have spent the past three wonderful years with you, and we wish you all the best in your next adventure!
Dear CIS Family,
It has been my honour and privilege to serve as your principal at CIS. I truly see every member of our school family as a gift and I will not forget you. It is a pleasure to have been part of your education journey and China has become a second home to me.
The 2019-2020 school year has been filled with many challenges and I feel that these challenges have only made us stronger as a school community. I believe learning to be more flexible, more collaborative, more patient and more understanding will serve all us as we enter the 2020-2021 school year. I wish to personally thank our PAC (parent advisory council) for their dedication and commitment to the school. You were steadfast in your engagement for the entire year and I hope you will continue to be a welcomed voice for the parents and the whole school for years to come.
Every Winter Festival, International Day, sporting event, school play and student council event will be forever held in my heart. There really is nothing better than watching our CIS students share all of their talents, whether it is through the arts, athletics or leadership. I have been a very proud principal countless times as I watch our students with admiration for all their accomplishments. Academics and extra-curricular go hand-in-hand and help to create a well-rounded and versatile global citizen.
Thank you to CIEO and to Winnie Chen for providing me with this incredible opportunity. A million thank you’s are not enough to convey my gratitude for being part of CIS and your organization. I know that Mr. Gary Rehman, Ms. Melissa Guzzo and Mr. Justin Rankin will continue to propel CIS forward and that they too believe that “Education is love”.
I will miss our students very much. The joy that they bring to school every day has made it very easy for me to be their principal. We have a very respectful and kind student community and I am especially proud of our student council and the culture they bring to our school. Our students are going to change the world and I only wish them the best in all of their future plans and endeavours.
Thank you CIS teachers for always putting the students first. Our teachers work incredibly hard to provide a world-class Alberta education for our students. It is not uncommon to see them working late into the evenings and all weekend because they want their students to love learning and they want to create the best environment for learning. I love to see how you smile at your students every day and whether it is a homeroom or a specialist teacher EVERY teacher at CIS places our students as their top priority.
May our paths cross again in the future. Good fortune and health to you and your family. I will always love CIS and I will always be a Grizzly.
